Project Introduction

ps everafter is a deeply personal mobile app designed to help users preserve and share cherished moments with their loved ones, even beyond their lifetime. While open to all, it thoughtfully prioritizes those who wish to leave behind meaningful messages. Especially the elderly and those facing illness, which have the option of delivering legacy messages two years after their passing. The app serves as a beautifully curated memory vault, holding everything from heartfelt stories to milestone celebrations like graduations. With the ability to capture these moments through photos, videos, voice recordings, or narrated slideshows, ps everafter ensures that love, wisdom, and memories endure for generations.

Project Goals

The goal of this project was to allow users to create meaningful moments, add contacts, and assign custodians who would ensure their messages are delivered if they pass away.

User needs and pain points
To truly understand user needs and pain points, I first had to define the audience and the service’s core objectives. ps everafter is designed primarily for older adults (50+) and individuals facing illness who want to document their legacies. The platform’s goal is to provide a simple yet meaningful way to create and store memories, offering users five free moments, with the option to add more and preserve them for up to 30 years.

For this audience the important additions included

Before and After

On the left, you can see the original designs PS Everafter had before we started working together. They had done their research and knew their audience well, but they needed a designer to refine the interactions, logic, and visuals of the app. The image on the right shows where we landed after I joined. All the same functions are still there, but the new version feels much simpler and easier to use, making it a better fit for their audience.

Roles & responsibilities

I was responsible for shaping the app’s branding, ensuring it reflected its message and goals. The logo mark began as a sketch, inspired by the idea of two people holding hands to form a heart. The goal was to convey love, whether between friends, family, or couples without making it feel like a dating app.

Beyond branding, I refined early prototypes into a seamless, end-to-end experience, building on initial insights. Working closely with my research partner, Gabbi, I helped define user needs and collaborated with developers to ensure a smooth and effective handoff.

I created specs for developer hand off so that the developer had a clear view of all the component states, measurements, and examples of responsive changes between the components from the component library.

My experience

Working on this project was deeply fulfilling. From the start, I connected with the app’s purpose and the people it was designed for. I truly believe it has the power to create a beautiful vault of memories, especially for those in the terminally ill and disabled communities, allowing them to leave messages and moments for their loved ones to receive in the future.

Designing for this audience came with meaningful challenges and learning opportunities. I had to consider how to make a modern app accessible to an older generation and build a system that accounted for the reality of users passing away. This led to the creation of a custodian feature that ensures their memories are safely preserved and delivered as intended.

More than just a project, this was an experience that reinforced why I love design. I believe this app will bring comfort, joy, and connection to so many people, and I am grateful to have played a part in bringing it to life.
