Intro
Like many product designers, I got my start designing mobile experiences. I loved the process of crafting apps for smartphones, putting thought into every detail to make interactions feel smooth and intuitive. Back then, I spent a lot of time using mobile design software like Adobe XD before Figma came along, and later Figma's own mobile app as well.
Even though years have passed, it feels like mobile design apps haven't really evolved all that much. They mostly function as tools to mirror prototypes or leave comments, but they rarely offer anything beyond that. I started thinking about how much more they could do and wondered why we couldn’t bring in some of Figma's best collaborative features. Imagine having live cursors, spotlight following, and voice chats right within the mobile app itself. It could completely change the way we collaborate on the go.
For fun & education
This design was created with color modes as a top priority. The variable color modes make it easy to switch between dark and light themes without losing the sense of depth and elevation throughout the interface. It’s all about maintaining visual hierarchy and clarity, no matter which mode you’re in.
Outcome
I focused on designing just the key screens from the mobile app experience, but the result felt genuinely successful. After testing the prototype on my phone, it felt like an app I’d actually want to use something that would keep me engaged. It struck me how valuable this would be when I’m away from my computer and need to jump into a meeting with a client right away.
Sure, I could use a meeting app, but it’s a hassle to switch apps, share screens, and hope that the person on the other end is following along. It doesn’t feel seamless. Given how many people rely on mobile devices these days, it makes sense to bring the same usability and power of Figma to mobile, making collaboration more intuitive and accessible on the go.
